Abstract
Styrofoam merupakan salah satu bahan kemasan plastik yang banyak digunakan dalam industri pangan. Namun, Berdasarkan sifat yang dimiliki styrofoam terbukti tidak ramah lingkungan oleh karna itu perlu dilakukan pembuatan biofoam. biofoam merupakan salah satu alternatif kemasan pangan pengganti Styrofoam yang aman untuk kesehatan dan ramah lingkungan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah Untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan tongkol jagung dan PVA terhadap karakteristik biofoam berbahan dasar pati singkong. Tahapan pembuatan biofoam ini dimulai dengan membuat serbuk tongkol jagung dan pembuatan biofoam dengan menggunakan metode baking process. Pembuatan biofoam dengan menambahkan variasi PVA (20%,30%,40%), tongkol jagung (5%, 10%, 15%), dan massa pati 36 gram. Uji yang dilakukan berupa uji daya serap air, biodegradasi, kuat tarik, dan ketebalan. Hasil kuat tarik terbaik didapatkan pada tongkol jagung 15 % dan PVA 20% yaitu 46,761 N/mm2. Untuk uji ketebalan, hasil terbaik adalah 2,36 mm pada variabel tongkol jagung 10% dan PVA 40%. Sedangkan hasil terbaik pada uji daya serap air yaitu 19,35% pada variabel tongkol jagung 10% dan PVA 20%
serta hasil biodegradasi terbaik sebesar 80,13gram pada variabel tongkol jagung 15% dan PVA 20%.

Styrofoam is one of the plastic packaging materials that is widely used in the food industry. However, based on the properties that styrofoam has, it is proven that it is not environmentally friendly, therefore it is necessary to make biofoam. biofoam is one of the alternative food packaging alternatives to Styrofoam that is safe for health and environmentally friendly. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the addition of corn cobs and PVA on the characteristics of biofoam made from cassava starch. The stages of making biofoam begin by making corn cob powder and making biofoam using the baking process method. The manufacture of biofoam by adding variations of PVA (20%,30%,40%), corn cob (5%, 10%, 15%), and starch mass of 36 grams. The tests carried out were in the form of water absorption, biodegradation, tensile strength, and thickness tests. The best tensile strength results were obtained in corn cobs of 15% and PVA of 20%, which was 46.761 N/mm2. For thickness test, the best in the water absorption test, which was 19.35% in the 10% corn cob variable and 20% PVA and the best biodegradation result of 80.13 grams in the corn cob variable 15% and PVA 20%.
